Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is the standard solvent used to reconstitute lyophilized peptides for research applications. The benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits microbial growth, allowing the solution to be used for multiple withdrawals over a 28-day period when stored at 2–8°C. Each vial contains 10mL of USP-grade bacteriostatic water.
